Facebook Redirect Bug

Uh oh!  Facebook is trying to take over the internet!

That's right - innocent web users across the globe were redirected to Facebook yesterday due to a defect in their published widget.  When users tried to access sites like CNN, The Washington Post and others, they were pushed to Facebook where an error page was displayed.

Now, a little redirect bug can be frustrating, but the mere fact that Facebook hijacked the internet with their widget is a little more disconcerting.

Facebook was quick to fix the issue (having most redirect problems fixed within an hour - some within minutes).  Facebook issued the following statement to NBC News:
"For a short period of time, there was a bug that redirected people from third party sites with Facebook Login to Facebook.com.  The issue was quickly resolved."
Note the two statements indicating timeliness of the fix.  It's nice that there was a quick fix, but in my eyes, they've taken another hit to their invincibility.  That may just be one person, but a company has to be aware of all the little defects that may even push one customer away from their product.

Don't get me wrong, I still check my Facebook frequently enough...
